Raimundo de Madrazo and Garrett (Rome, 1841 - Versailles, 1920) was a Spanish painter of the nineteenth century realism. He was the son and pupil of the famous portrait painter Federico de Madrazo, no less famous brother Mariano Fortuny and grandson of the artist Jose Madrazo. Today, some of his works are exhibited in the best museums in Europe and in the Prado Museum.
His first teachers were his father and grandfather. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, where his teacher was Carlos Luis de Ribera and Carlos de Haes. He completed his training, traveling to Paris, where he went in 1860 as an apprentice painter Leon Cogniet
Topics works mainly portraits, always cheerful and optimistic. He is considered one of the most accomplished portrait painters of his generation and a worthy successor to his father Federico. His careful and elegant realism was key to its success among customers of the bourgeoisie of his time. Works are widely recognized in France and throughout the world.
