Peter Vereshchagin was, like his brother Basil, initial art education in the family and also to continue it in the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg (1858-1865). However, his artistic interests brothers differed markedly. Petr Petrovich Vereshchagin is primarily known for its scenery. After graduation worked as a teacher and created a lot of landscapes. His views of cities or specific locations ("View of Reval from Kadriorg," 1864; "View Dinaburga", 1867; "The market in Nizhny Novgorod", 1867; "View of the Kremlin," 1868) brought him recognition, expressed in the assignment of titles artist of the second, and then the first degree, academic landscape painting (1873), and known among art lovers.
After retiring from teaching work the artist has traveled extensively and has written: Caucasian types (Sukhum-Kale), Crimea ("View of Sevastopol by Malakhov Hill"), the Urals ("Chusovaia River. Stone" Red ""), the North-West of Russia ("Pskov", "View of the embankment of the Neva River at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg on a summer evening").
During the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 is in the army and wrote a series of pictures without changing, however, his inclinations - mostly landscapes associated with the image of the Danube.
In landscape painting artists of academic direction sought above all to create an ideal and therefore beautiful images of nature and the city, although the imaging fidelity was for them not the last value. It was such an artist and PP Vereshchagin.
