Pleasure to behold. Artist Daniel Garber

Known impressionist, romantic, realist Daniel Garber was one of the most influential and successful artists of America with his poetic description of landscapes, close to him everyday scenes depicting women (mostly his wife) and children. One of the founders of the art colony "New Hope" (New Hope Art Colony. Niels Edward Krueger
Nils Edvard Kreuger

October 11, 1858, Kalmar - May 11, 1930, Stockholm

Swedish painter, draftsman, and illustrator.

Nils Kreuger was born in a middle class family of sons - Johann August Kruger, engaged, like his father, timber trade, and married since 1852 to Christina Elisabeth Lidman.
While the relatives Niels doing business and capital, he in 1874 entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where he became friends with future activists created in opposition to the official Royal Academy of Artists Association, bringing together "under his wing" progressive Swedish painters of the late 19th - early 20th century.
Education in the Academy, according to many, it was a routine and outdated, but, nevertheless, it gave Nils Krueger good foundation as a draftsman. However, after several years of training Niels due to illness had to leave the Academy, and in 1878 he continued his studies at a private art school, Edward Perseus (1841-1890) in Stockholm.

After completing his studies at the school of Perseus, Nils Kreuger in 1881 went to Paris, where he lived until 1887. First, the artist settled in the famous Montparnasse, but in the summer of the following year moved to the colony of Scandinavian artists in the village of Grez-sur-Loing, near Paris.

Under the influence of the French plein air painting, which preached the Impressionists, Nils has created a lot of landscapes and cityscapes of Paris and its environs. The artist depicts landscapes at dawn and dusk, fog, rain or snow.

Fluency brush and feeling light Nils owes French artist Jules Bastien-Lepage.
In the company of Richard Berg Nils visited Konkerne in Brittany and Katvyak near Leiden in the Netherlands.
In 1883, Kruger and very successful debut at the Paris Salon with a picture of "The Way to career? (V?gen till stenbrottet).

In Paris, Kruger met his future wife - Bertha von Essen (Bertha von Essen), in 1886 they were married, and the next, when a daughter Bessie decided to return to Sweden.

In 1885, Kruger takes an active part in the protest movement against the conservative Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Biographers Kruger called the initiator of the movement of the artist Ernst Josephson, although the asset created in the following year, the Association of Artists, he was not a member. However, in 1885, was held the exhibition "From the banks of the Seine" (Fren Seines strand), which was attended by artists signed a petition with the requirements for the Academy. In the summer of 1885 Kruger and his friend Berg first visited the picturesque surroundings of ?land, which became a source of inspiration for Nils for many years.

And next year, was created the Association of Artists, which lasted until 1920.

It should be noted that Kruger, like most Swedish artists - members of the Association later abandoned by the French style of realistic landscape plein air painting of the 1880s to create in the next decade, a national romantic style in landscape painting, a symbolic and bright in color. This, of course, contributed to "Varbergskaya School"

.For Kruger transition to the new style took place between 1893 and 1896, when he and his friends - Richard Berg and Carl Nordstr?m started at home this very Varbergskuyu school.
In 1887, when Kruger returned home from France to Sweden, he settled in Varberg on the west coast of Sweden.

In 1892, Niels has invited me to visit Nordstrom, early next year, they were joined by Berg. And three artists for two years actively wrote experimenting, singing beautiful surroundings Varberg and rural life.

The subjects for his paintings Kruger chose alleys and gardens Varberg, landscapes outside the city, often depicting grazing.

Sintetizm Paul Gauguin and Van Gogh paintings that friends saw in 1893 at an exhibition in Copenhagen, played a crucial role in the development of this new national-romantic style. Paintings Kruger critics often called "synthesis of atmospheric painting." They write that the artist's temperament match the strength of his expression.

Impressed with drawings by Van Gogh, Niels came up with his distinctive technique of ink dots and dashes. They filled the entire volume of the web and deepen the emotional content of the picture. Art critic Ulif Linda writes:

"Ink dots complement the story of his paintings and express a variety of aerial phenomena - a gust of wind, temperature, humidity. In addition, kryugerskie dashes and dots are a set of abstract symbols for additional expression of emotions."

Kruger pictures presented at the exhibition of the Association in 1894, caused a lot of interest as well as negative reviews. But Nils Kruger during the following years continued to experiment, thereby creating a new, more monumental style.

In 1896, Kruger and his family moved to Stockholm, but every summer the artist spent in "rural backwoods" - in Eland, Halland, Varberg or Bestade.

His main theme remains were landscapes, which he began to combine studies with animals - cows and horses ...
After 1907 Kruger moved from ink dots to color spots, which due to strong brush strokes create a sense of mosaic. Detailed line began to carry out a formal and decorative value.

In monumental style Kruger performed murals for schools Engelbrecht in Stockholm.
Under the influence of Neo-Impressionism became a popular artist began to use a more uniform and more bright spots, but bright range of colors.
